Back Roads Manitoba | Wawanesa (Episode 5)

It’s an attractive little town with a population of just over five hundred people.  A town with country charm, and incredible historic value.

About a two-hour drive from Winnipeg, west on highway 2, lies the somewhat hidden village of Wawanesa.  It’s nestled around the Souris River that has been an invaluable water resource for many years.

Although settlers were arriving in the area in the late 1800’s, the town of Wawanesa did not grow in great strides until the railroad carved its’  path, in 1890.

By 1909, the village of Wawanesa was incorporated.  A village that would house colourful personalities, and imaginative minds throughout its’ years of existing.
