Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old male in connection to an assault with a weapon.

On Thursday, July 22, 2021, officers leaving police headquarters noticed an adult male and female having an argument. As the argument escalated the male pulled out an axe and wielded it at the female. The female was able to run away but the male chased after her. He continued to swing the axe at pedestrians in his way.

Officers were able to contain the suspect and used a taser to subdue him so they could safely take him into custody.

Ethan Joseph Muswagon of Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release.

Muswagon was detained in custody.
