Main Street A&W restaurant goes up in flames Sunday evening.

The A&W fast food restaurant on Main Street near Inkster Boulevard is a charred shell of a building after flames engulfed the structure around 5:15 pm on Sunday, February 10, 2019.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Chief, John Lane told media that in fires like this grease often accumulates in the roof and cold temperatures make the air denser adding more oxygen to the blaze making it hotter and more intense.

Eighteen pieces of equipment were called in to battle the inferno. Crews were rotated in the frigid temperatures in order to keep them safe. It is expected that they will be on hand for several hours.
