August came in violently with multiple serious incidents over the long weekend

August came in violently after multiple stabbings. shootings, robberies and assaults kept Winnipeg police officers running over the long weekend.

Stabbing

It all began Friday night when officers responded to a stabbing on Dufferin Avenue just west of Main Street.

According to police a male was found unconscious in the roadway suffering from a stab wound to the neck.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

Officers from the Forensics Unit spent several hours on scene gathering evidence. Dufferin was closed into the early morning hours of August 1, 2020 as the investigation unfolded

Severe Assault

Just after midnight police responded to another serious incident on Main Street near Henry Avenue. Police say a male had been assaulted suffering severe head injuries. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

Police had a section of the sidewalk taped off and the centre and curb lanes of Main Street blocked as the investigation was underway.

Armed Robbery

Saturday continued to prove to be violent as police responded to an armed robbery in the 1400 block of Henderson Highway. During that incident staff were threatened with a weapon as the suspect stole items from the store.

Armed Sexual Assault

Officers also responded to a sexual assault that involved a firearm. The victim was treated in hospital and released. Police say the no shots were fired during the assault. This investigation is ongoing.

Shots Fired

Sunday continued to be violent police were called after shot were fired at a vehicle on Henderson Highway.

Police say the incident happened around 4:35 am.

Responding officers located a suspect on foot but he fled as they approached. A 30-year-old male was quickly arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Officers had to deploy a taser in order to place the suspect in custody. The suspect is facing a number of weapon and drug offences.

A firearm was found at a nearby residence.

Stabbing

On Monday August 3, 2020, Police say a 33-year-old female stabbed a victim on Elgin Avenue. The victim was taken to hospital by paramedics in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

The suspect was charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon.

Armed Robbery

A Keewatin Street store was robbed after the suspect threatened to use a weapon against staff. The suspect stole cash and merchandise before fleeing. The investigation is ongoing.

Stabbing

No arrests have been made yet in a Higgins Avenue stabbing Tuesday morning, August 4, 2020. The victim was found suffering from a stab wound to his upper chest. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition.
