Winnipeg Police have taken a dangerous criminal off the street after he shot two people from behind.
On October 31, 2017, a 24-year-old male was shot in the upper back and a 28-year-old female was shot in the back of the lower body at a home in Winnipeg. Both victims were taken to hospital. The suspect then went to another home nearby and threatened four more adults that he was going to shoot them.
Police had been tracking the suspect since early July of 2017 when they had received a report of a woman being assaulted by a man with a gun.
In October they received more information on the suspect indicating he had a loaded gun in a residence.
On October 28, just three days before he shot two people he threatened and assaulted another man while armed with a sawed-off shotgun. The victim, in that case, was treated for minor injuries.
Police issued a request for help from the public in locating the suspect on November 4, 2017

Police responded to a home in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue on November 18, 2017, after they received a tip that a man was inside a home armed with a gun. Officers, including members of the Tactical Support Unit, went to the residence and determined the suspect was still inside. The suspect was ordered out of the building and was place under arrest. A search of the home resulted in officers finding and seizing a loaded .22 calibre revolver.
Samuel Tache MCKAY, 29 from Winnipeg was arrested and charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:
- Possess Weapon X2
- Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition X2
- Possess Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance X2
He was also wanted on a number of outstanding arrest warrants
- W/A – Assault, Disobey Court Order x2 Possess Weapon
- W/A – Point Firearm, Fail to Comply with Recognizance X6, Utter Threats, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Careless Storage
- W/A – Attempt Murder x2, Point Firearm X3, Discharge with intent X3, Break and Enter
- W/A – FTA Recognizance
