RCMP lay Attempted Murder charges in stabbing of First Nations Police officer

RCMP have laid charges of attempted murder in the stabbing of a Manitoba First Nations Police officer in Waywayseecappo First Nation.

The MFNP officer had responded to a dispute at the gaming centre in Waywayseecappo on May 29, 2019 just before 11:00 pm. The officer and several suspect got into an altercation in the parking lot. During the altercation, the officer was stabbed several times.

The officer pulled his service firearm and shot a 21-year-old suspect.

The officer was treated for serious injuries.

On May 31, 2019 police arrested the and charged the suspect who the officer shot.

Matthew Benn, 21 from Waywayseecappo First Nation has been charged for his alleged involvement.

He was detained in custody.

The investigation continues.
