Attempted murder charges laid after shots fired on Sandy Bay First Nation

Manitoba First Nations Police (MFNPS) responded to reports of shots fired on Sandy Bay First Nation around 6:30 am on Monday, June 29, 2020.

According to the caller a male was seen chasing another male while shooting at him.

RCMP were in the area and found a male who had been shot twice near a home on the main road in Sandy Bay First Nation.

MFNPS officers and emergency medical services arrived on scene shortly afterwards. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition and was also able to identify the suspect.

According to the victim the suspect had returned to his home with the firearm still in his possession.

Police contained the house the suspect was in and ordered him out. The suspect complied along with an adult female.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the home and found a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.

The 33-year-old male suspect has been charged with Attempted Murder with a firearm, Discharge Firearm with Intent,Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

The adult female did not face any charges and was released from custody.
