A 32-year-old male is in custody after he allegedly barricaded himself in a room with another man then attacked him with a knife.
It happened just after 6:30 am on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at a business in the 400 block of Notre Dame Avenue.
According to police, the suspect had taken narcotics prior to arriving at the business. He then met with the victim and took more drugs. The suspect then barricaded himself and the male victim in a room. The victim was threatened with a knife as the suspect began to damage the room and contents. At some point, a small fire was started but was quickly put out by staff at the business through a broken window.
The victim was then choked and the suspect cut his throat with the knife and then stabbed him several times in the upper body.

When officers arrived on scene they found both men in the room covered in blood the suspect was still holding the knife but dropped it when police ordered him to do so.
Paramedics took the victim to hospital in critical condition. The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police continued the investigation an on Monday, December 18, 2017, executed a search warrant at the scene of the attack. Investigators seized several items.
On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, the suspect was released from the hospital and taken into police custody.
Brian Joseph Steve Pensak, 32 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Forcible Confinement
- Utter Threats
- Possess Weapon
- Mischief Under $5000
- Arson with Disregard for Human Life
