Emergency crews search Assiniboine River early Saturday morning

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) Water Rescue unit was called out to search a section of the Assiniboine River on Saturday.

Fire crews got the call just after 4:00 am July 27, 2019 and responded to the area under the Maryland Street bridge.

Police closed both the northbound and southbound spans of the bridge while crews worked on the bridge and on the water below.

Water rescue members probed the bottom of the river with long poles as a WFPS drone flew overhead.

The search was called off after approximately an hour and fire crews turned the scene over to Winnipeg Police.

News 4 has reached out to Winnipeg Police for more information.
