In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 9, 2020, Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue after a male had been assaulted by a group of people.
When officers arrived they found a male suffering from serious injuries. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition but did not survive his injuries.

Investigators have identified the victim as 30-year-old Anthony Evaristo Gonzales from Winnipeg.
