Four youth are behind bars after the group assaulted several females and attempted to rob them late Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2018.
Police say the thugs attacked a 35-year-old woman around Furby Street and Ellice Avenue just after 3:20 pm. The victim was punched several times and the attackers tried to steal her jacket and belongings. The fled when a bystander intervened.
Minutes later a 19-year-old female was attacked on Balmoral Street. According to police one of the suspects had a small knife. The victim was hit several times and her cell and wallet were taken. The victim required medical treatment in hospital for her injuries.
A third attack happened around 3:45 pm near Edmonton Street and Portage Avenue. A female was attacked when she refused to give the youth a cigarette. The victim was kicked several times while she was on the ground and the group tried to steal her purse. The suspects took off when someone nearby intervened.
Police were told that the suspects got onto a Winnipeg Transit Bus. Officers located the suspects near Portage Avenue and Waterfront Drive. The stolen cell phone was recovered along with the knife used in one of the robberies.
A 14-year-old male and three females aged 14,15 and 16 are each facing three counts of robbery and possess weapon charges.
All four were detained in custody and were taken to the Manitoba Youth Centre.
The investigation continues.
