Assault in Winnipeg Leaves One Dead

On the evening of August 20, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a distress call in the 400 block of Maryland Street. Officers arrived to find an adult male victim, later identified as 32-year-old Philip Daniel Lachose, suffering from severe injuries on the sidewalk. Despite receiving immediate emergency medical care and being transported to the hospital in critical condition, Lachose was later pronounced deceased.

Lachose, a member of the Chemawawin Cree Nation, had been residing in Winnipeg. The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, and family notifications have been made.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident, including video surveillance, to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.

This tragic event has left the community in shock, and the police are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the assault.
