Mountie charged in an alleged assault during arrest

Manitoba’s police watchdog agency the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) says that an RCMP officer is facing charges.

The charges stem from a 2019 arrest of a 50-year-old male. During his arrest, the man alleges he was assaulted by the Thompson Mountie.

When the IIU learned of the incident they began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.

The IIU has concluded that there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe a criminal offence took place.

RCMP Constable Jeremiah Dumont-Fontaine from the Thompson Detachment has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and will appear in court on February 25, 2020.
