Two in custody after a man and a woman assaulted and robbed downtown

Late Monday night, September 9, 2019, a 26-year-old male and a 25-year-old female were assaulted by a group of people, say police.

According to investigators the pair were in the area of Carlton Street and Ellice Avenue when they were punched, kicked and hit over the head with a solid object.

The male victim grabbed hold of a female assailant and was holding her until a male suspect began swinging a hammer at him.

The suspects got away with a cellphone and cigarettes.

Officers found two of the suspects right away but a search of the area did not turn up two others.

The victims were taken to hospital and treated for upper body injuries.

Kara Lisa Harper, 27 is facing charges for her alleged involvement of Robbery and Possess Weapon.

Michael Okemow, 31 has been charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon and Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition.

Both suspects were detained in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the assault and asks anyone with information to call 204-986-6219.
