The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after a man contacted Brandon Police Service and alleged that he had been assaulted during an arrest by officers in October 2022.

BPS reported the allegation to the IIU on February 24, 2023, after the man reported the incident on February 21, 2023. According to BPS officers had responded to an incident on 5th Street on October 15, 2022. As officers arrived on the scene a male fled a nearby home and when he was located a use-of-force encounter happened. The male was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre, treated and released back into police custody.

The IIU civilian Director has determined that it is in the public interest to investigate.
