Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating members of the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) after a 29-year-old woman made allegations that the officers assaulted her.
The WPS say that on October 9, 2017, they were called to a lounge after an altercation broke out. The complainant was arrested because she had a previous court order which she had breached. After being arrested she experienced health issues and was taken to Health Sciences Centre. As she was being taken to the hospital she made the allegation that she had been assaulted by WPS officers.

Winnipeg Police notified the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU). The civilian director of the IIU, Zane Tessler, believes that it would be in the public’s interest for the IIU to investigate the matter even though no serious injuries were reported.
