Boy who set fire won’t face charges

Arson is the cause of a fire that had emergency crews rushing to the Grace Hospital Monday night.

Around 11:00 pm a call came in about a fire in the construction area on the north side of the hospital as flames and black smoke  could be seen shooting out of the roof of the structure

When crews arrived they were faced with an number of obstacles that slowed them down for a few minutes. A construction fence surrounding the site had to be cut open. Firefighters also had to contend with a hydrant that was not working restricting their water supply.

Fire crews had the blaze knocked down fairly quickly. No fire or smoke damage was reported to any other areas of the hospital said fire officials.

Rob Kerr who lives in the area shot this video of the fire as crews had just arrived on scene.

Police have arrested a boy in connection with the arson but he won’t be facing charges in the case because he is under 12 years old.

An estimate for the cost of the damages to the new building has not been released.
