Arson charges laid after a woman set multiple fires in and around an apartment complex

A 28-year-old female is facing arson-related charges after she allegedly set multiple fires in a Kennedy Street apartment complex/

On January 1, 2023, general patrol officers found a large garbage bin fire behind an apartment building around 11:15 pm and called Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

As the officers investigated the incident they learned that several fires had been set inside the structure on different floors. Officers armed with the description of a female suspect searched the area and located her in the 500 block of Balmoral Street. Once in custody a search of the woman located a knife, fire extinguisher, and materials used to start a fire.

Total damages due to the fires are estimated to be approximately $2,000. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The female suspect has been charged for her alleged involvement with:

  • Arson Causing Damage to Property x 2
  • Possession of Incendiary Material
  • Possession of a Weapon

The accused was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
