ARRESTS MADE IN 2016 KIDNAPPING AND ROBBERY OF ON-LINE DATING VICTIM

 

 

30 year old male was beaten, stabbed, robbed and forcibly confined

 

 

 

 

 

Winnipeg have arrested a second suspect in a case that started in July 2016.

A 30 year old male victim had responded to and arranged a date through a popular on-line dating site. When he arrived at the residence on July 23, 2016 he was met by a female and a male in the home. A second male arrived a short time later and attacked the victim. The attacker stabbed the man in the lower body and robbed him. The suspect also took the man’s car keys.

While one of the accused was taking money out of the victim’s bank account, others continued to assault him.

The victim was then forced into his own vehicle, driven to the north perimeter. His vehicle was driven into a ditch causing extensive damage. At this point the suspects took off leaving the victim with the car.

RCMP received a report of an injured male trying to flag down vehicles on the north Perimeter Highway near Pipeline Road. A passerby picked up the victim and drove him to a hospital in Winnipeg. 

Winnipeg Police arrested and charged a 17 year old female with multiple offences for her alleged involvement on July 31, 2016 including:

  • Robbery x3
  • Unlawfully in a Dwelling House x2
  • Break, Enter and Commit Robbery
  • Assaut with a Weapon
  • Robbery
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Kidnapping
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger life or Cause Bodily Harm

On Wednesday July 12, 2017 police arrested a second suspect in the case.

Joseph Bernard Richard, 20 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Robbery
  • Kidnapping
  • Forceible Confinement
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm

Police say that there are additional suspects that they are looking for and are asking anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
