18 year veteran of Winnipeg Police Service facing 34 charges for alleged crimes
Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged an 18 year veteran of the service with multiple crimes.
Constable Trent Milan’s arrest is a result of a year long investigation by the Professional Standards Unit.
Milan was currently working in the west district as a general patrol officer but the investigation into his conduct went back to 2010 when he was assigned to the Street Crime Unit.
Winnipeg Police say that the internal investigation pertains to the conduct and actions of Milan over an extended period of time and involves matters relating to the handling of property, drugs, and cash in multiple events.
Police say that they were in contact with the director of the Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba (IIU) early in the investigation. The IIU monitored the investigation and was briefed prior to the arrest of Milan.
Although this investigation is ongoing, Police say that it is crucial that they released the information about the arrest, Milan’s removal from active duty and of the seriousness of the crimes.
Milan is also accused of sharing police information contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Milan, has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:
- Criminal Breach of Trust (s. 336)
- Breach of Trust Public Officer (s. 122)
- Attempt Obstruct Justice
- Theft Over $5000 (x2)
- PGOBC Over $5000 (x2)
- PGOBC Under $5000
- Possess Controlled Substance (Meth)
- Possess Controlled Substance (Cocaine)
- Possess Prohibited Weapon (x15)
- Possess Prohibited Device to wit: High Capacity Pistol Magazine
- Possess for the Purpose (Marihuana x2)
- Possess for the Purpose (Cocaine)
- Possess for the Purpose (Meth)
- Possess for the Purpose (MDMA)
- Possess for the Purpose (Ecstasy)
- Possess for the Purpose (Percocet x2)
Milan was released on a Promise to Appear with an Undertaking and has been placed on Administrative Leave. His employment status will be reviewed by the Chief of Police once the investigation has been completed.
