Armed and Barricaded man threatens to burn down home

RCMP from Steinbach responded to an incident overnight at Highway 1 and Provincial Road 207.

Police say they received a call from a 32-year-old female around 1:45 am March 15, 2018, who reported that her 60-year-old common-law partner had threatened to burn down their home. She told police that he had a number of firearms and that he said he would harm officers if they showed up. The woman, who was calling from another residence, said that the male was in the process of burning her personal belongings.

RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) was deployed to the scene.

At around 7:40 am members of ERT approached the home. The suspect immediately exited the building and surrendered to police.

A number of firearms were located inside the residence.

The male suspect is facing a number of weapons, uttering threats and arson related charges.

Police say that the investigation is continuing and no one was injured during the incident
