A 26-year-old male is in custody after he pulled a handgun on officers while attempting to flee from them on Friday evening, December 9, 2022.
According to police, officers were responding to an unrelated matter when they were alerted to an armed man with a gun at a St. Matthews Avenue business.
As soon as officers located the suspect he ran in an attempt to get away. As the officers caught up to the suspect and tried to place him under arrest the suspect became combative. At this point, he pulled out the handgun. Police were able to gain control and placed the suspect in custody.
While officers were arresting the male suspect a female friend of the suspect’s physically tried to stop the officers from arresting the suspect. Police arrested the female as well.
Police seized a number of items during the arrest of both people including:
- Springfield Armory .45 Calibre Handgun
- .45 Calibre Magazine containing one .45 round of Ammunition
- Approximately 7 grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $1,500.00
- Packaging Materials
- Approximately $1,500.00 in currency
- Cellular phone
Julio Cain Friday has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
- Resist Peace Officer
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2
The 23-year-old female was charged for her alleged involvement with:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.00
- Obstruct Peace Officer
She was released on an Undertaking
