A 31-year-old male is in custody following an armed robbery of a retail store on Main Street around 8:15 p.m. on Monday, February 12. 2024.
Police say that the suspect had stolen property from the store while his child was present and placed the stolen item into the child’s backpack. As a security guard tried to intervene he was threatened by the suspect and told the suspect was armed with a gun.
Around 9:35 p.m. officers found the suspect and child in the back lane in the 300 block of Boyd Avenue. A taser was used on the suspect as he was uncooperative with officers following a foot pursuit. Police seized a machete and CO²-powered handgun on the suspects person. The child was a male under 12 and was not injured in the incident.
The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Robbery
- Fail to Provide Necessities of Life (Child)
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 2
- Resist Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 7
The accused was detained in custody.
Police did not identify the suspect in order to protect the identity of the child. The child was turned over to his mother.
