ARMED ROBBERY | MAN BUSTED AFTER CRIME SPREE FOR THE PAST SIX WEEKS

Winnipeg Police have caught and armed robber who has been on a crime spree for the last six weeks across the city.

On Sunday, September 18, 2016 around 10:30 am the suspect tried to knock off a hotel in the 100 block of Marion Street. He disguised himself then took out a handgun, confronted staff and demanded cash. He fled the scene, empty handed. The hotel employee was not injured. 

30 minutes later around 11:00 am he tried tried the same thing again at a hotel in the 400 block of Westwood Drive. Again he disguised himself and again he produced a handgun and approached staff demanding cash. He once again fled empty handed. The hotel employee was not hurt. 

A Tactical Support Team unit was searching the area near Roblin Boulevard and Dale Boulevard when they came upon a male matching the description of the suspect. The suspect was arrested.

Neil David Ernest Cheyne, 38 from Winnipeg has been linked to 17 commercial robberies between July 31 and September 18, 2016. He as been charged with various offences for his alleged involvement including:
 – Robbery x 7
 – Robbery with Firearm x 10
 – Disguise with Intent x 17
 – Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x 19
 – Possess Prohibited Weapon x 6
 – Use Firearm in the Commission of an Offence x 10
 – Point Firearm x 10
 – Theft Under $5,000
 – Theft Over $5,000
   
Cheyne was detained in custody.
