Robbery suspects busted after pointing replica handgun at witness

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a male and female after two armed robberies over the weekend.

Police say that just after 12:30 am Sunday morning, December 16, 2018, the pair walked into a convenience store in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue. The male suspect was brandishing a gun while the female was carrying a bag. While in the store they demanded and stole cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash. A witness in the area followed the robbers and the male suspect pointed the firearm at him.

Police arrived and the witness led them to the area where the pair were last seen. Officers observed a man and a woman running nearby and took them into custody near Jessie Avenue and Nassau Street. Police recovered the stolen items and a replica handgun.

The investigation uncovered that the pair had also been involved in a similar robbery on Saturday, December 15, 2018, on Osborne Street where the pair made off with cash.

John Raven Ward, 34 has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Armed Robbery Using a Firearm X2
  • Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition X2
  • Possess Weapon X2
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Canada Wide Warrant – Parole Revocation

Courtney Marie Friesen, 28 from Winnipeg has been charged for her alleged involvement with:

  • Armed Robbery Using a Firearm X2
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Both accused were detained in custody.
