Winnipeg police were forced to use their taser on a suspect after he came at them with a knife on Monday.
It all began on September 11, 2016 around 10:30 pm, the suspect went to a convenience store in the 800 block of Ellice Avenue and stole some merchandise.When he attempted to leave he was confronted by an employee. The suspect pulled out a knife, threatened the employee, and fled with the items. The employee was not injured.
A week later on September 19, 2016 around 4:20 pm the suspect went to a pawn shop located in the 600 block of Ellice. He selected a cell phone, but refused to pay. Again he produced a knife and threatened the employee. The suspect fled with the smart phone. The employee was not hurt.
Later that day around 6:30 pm patrolling officers spotted the suspect in the 400 Young Street. They approached him and he pulled a knife then attempted to slash both officers. Police disarmed the suspect by shooting him with a taser. Neither officer was injured.
Charles Wilfred Thompson, 38 from Winnipeg has been charged with the numerous offences for his alleged involvement including:
– Assault Peace Officer with Weapon x 2
– Obstruct Peace Officer
– Robbery x 2
– Carry Concealed Weapon x 2
Thompson was detained in custody.
