Apartment building a complete loss in an overnight fire.

A three-storey apartment building on William Avenue is expected to be a complete loss after an overnight fire. This is the second time in six months that the building was the scene of a fire.

Crews were called to the blaze around 2:07 am Friday morning, January 28, 2022 and encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames as they arrived. A defensive attack was launched. Winnipeg Police Service Air-1 provided assistance to the fire incident commander by providing updates from above the fire.

One home nearby was evacuated and crews worked to protect it. The home did suffer water and heat damage.

Firefighters are expected to be on the scene for most of the day.

William Avenue will remain closed between Isabel Street and Sherbrook Street while crews are on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
