Another reduction in Pfizer vaccine coming to Manitoba

For the third time this month, the province announced that the amount of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine coming to the province in February will be reduced.

Officials say that they were told by the federal government today, January 22, 2021, that Manitoba will only receive 2,340 doses of the vaccine during the first week of February. Public health was expecting 5,850 doses to arrive that week.

The federal government is no longer providing projections for the second week of February.

Reductions over the next two weeks equate to a 90 per cent decrease in the number of doses projected last week. That means Manitoba will be receiving 32,760 fewer doses than had been expected.

No doses of the Pfizer vaccine are expected next week

Effective immediately the super immunization sites in Winnipeg and Brandon will stop taking appointments. The province is also reviewing the current supply of vaccine to determine if any appointments that have already been booked have to be cancelled.

So far in the immunization program 23,884 doses of vaccine have been administered throughout the province including 20,846 first doses and 3,038 second doses.
