Winnipeg Police have arrested an adult male and an adult female in two unrelated cases of animal cruelty.
On April 16, 2019, police received a report of a male dragging a dog on the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge.
Witnesses had seen the male hitting the dog, dragging it and throwing it to the ground.
Police arrested the suspect and the dog, a young female German Sheppard cross, was turned over to Animal Services.
Charges were authorized by crown prosecutors on August 28, 2019. Police say a warrant was issued for the arrest of the suspect on October 1, 2019.
Brennan Bird, 27 from Winnipeg turned himself in on October 10, 2019, and has been charged for his alleged involvement with Killing or Injuring Other Animals and Causing Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal.
He was released on a promise to appear.
In an unrelated incident on September 30, 2019 police say an adult female went to Animal Services Agency in Winnipeg and turned in a dog she said she had found as a stray in the Sage Creek area.
The American Bull Dog cross had multiple lacerations on its thigh, chest and shoulder. Police say that it was determined by a veterinarian that an ‘X’ was carved into its shoulder deliberately.
Investigators learned that the woman who had turned the dog over to Animal Services was the owner of the animal.
On October 10, 2019, officers found the suspect in the Steinbach area and arrested her.
Crystal Dawn Stadt, 30 from Hanover, was charged for her alleged involvement with Abandon or Neglect Animal.
She was released on a promise to appear in court.
