Province sends in equipment to clear river ice
It’s that time of year once again when the Red River begins to melt and ice-jams become a real possibility.
To prevent that from happening the province has sent in the fleet of ice-cutting and Amphibex machines to break up the river channel ice between Netley Creek and Netley Lake on the north end of the Red River.
More than 25 kilometres of river ice will be crushed in this year’s effort.
The province is reminding people to stay off the ice in areas where ice cutting operations are apparent or where signs have been posted. Snowmobilers, ice fishers and others are reminded to avoid areas that are posted with safety notices.
Ice fishing huts or other materials on the river should be removed in the area of the ice mitigation program.
