Ambulatory clinic set to open on Monday

Health Minister Audrey Gordon announced on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, that the provinces has spent $16.7 million on a new ambulatory care clinic that was first announced in 2017.

The new facility will bring 12 internal medicine clinics under on roof at the former Ellen Douglas School at 700 Elgin Avenue.

“Manitoba is investing in the care patients need while making services easier for them to access,” said Gordon. “Medicine clinics in a single facility provides added convenience to patients and frees up space for other acute-care services at HSC Winnipeg.”

The facility will open beginning on Monday, April 11 when the rheumatology and neurology clinics open on the main floor of the building. Other clinics are expected to open over the next three months including general internal medicine, hypertension and respirology in late May, and allergy, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hepatology and infectious diseases clinics in the last week of June.

Dr. Eberhard Renner, provincial specialty lead for internal medicine, Shared Health said “Consolidating clinics provides a more convenient experience for patients, who will be able to book appointments with several specialists for the same day. This will reduce their need for travelling to multiple clinic appointments.”
