After complaining about cuts to transit funding from the government of Manitoba Mayor Brian Bowan is once again speaking out against the province.
The mayor is irate over cost sharing cuts to Winnipeg’s ambulance service. According to the Mayor, he just received word from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority that funding for the ambulance service has been frozen at 2016 levels.
For decades the province has shared the cost of the ambulance among themselves (25%), the province (25%) and users (50%) of the service.
The mayor says that the province cut funding unilaterally and without warning. The funding freeze could result in a funding shortfall of $12 million in 2018.
