According to police the mother of the child left a pre-arranged supervised visit with the child without legal authorization.

Winnipeg Police Missing Persons Unit members investigated and it was determined that the child was in an identified vehicle and likely leaving the city.

Police made the decision that an Amber Alert should be issued.

At 9:10 pm the alert ended when the mother of the child went to the RCMP detachment in Amaranth and presented herself to officers there. Police say the child is safe.

This was the first time Winnipeg Police Service issued an Amber Alert.

Editor’s Note: The identity of the mother has been removed from the story to protect the child’s identity
