RCMP have cancelled the amber alert that was issued after 6-year-old Emma O’Keefe was abducted during a vehicle theft in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
Emma’s mother had left the girl in her Mercedes SUV with the doors unlocked and the motor still running when she went into a business at a local strip mall.
The vehicle was stolen with the child still strapped into a child seat in the rear of the utility vehicle.
Emma suffers from epilepsy and autism and requires medication every 12 hours. According to police missing one dose could have resulted in serious medical distress.
One of the concerns was also that the child is non-verbal and may not respond to her name.
RCMP issued an amber alert shortly after the abduction in Saskatchewan and expanded it to Manitoba and Alberta around 12:30 am Monday, September 17, 2018.
Around 6:45 am Emma was safely located inside the abandoned SUV in dense bush near and industrial area of North Battleford. She received medical attention and is now at home with her family.
The attention now turns to find the person or persons responsible for the theft of the SUV and abduction of Emma.
