It was a long shot at best and it raised high hopes that Amazon would choose Winnipeg as the location of their second North American headquarters but the dream was cut short as the only Canadian city to be shortlisted was Toronto.
In September Amazon put out a request for proposals (RFP) from cities across the continent looking for a location to set up a second headquarters.

Premier Brian Pallister and Mayor Brian Bowman jumped in with both feet and spearheaded a bid in an effort to convince the major corporation that Winnipeg was the best place to do business even though it fell short in many of the RFP requirements.

There were 238 proposals submitted to Amazon of which the top 20 were selected to move on to the second phase of the search.
