A 27-year-old Winnipeg man has been returned to Manitoba after he fled to the United States in 2010.
Police with the Child Abuse Unit began an investigation into Daniel Enrique Cortez after he was suspected of sexual assault.
In April 2010 Cortez was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement. Facing two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, and two counts of incest, Cortez fled to the United States after he was released by police on a promise to appear.
Extradition was applied for and granted and on August 23, 2017, Cortez was arrested by the US Marshals Service in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, Cortez was handed over to Winnipeg Police at the Emerson Border crossing.
Cortez remains in custody.
