Police say a 31-year old man blew more than twice the legal limit following a collision during the blizzard on February 1, 2022, at about 3:35 pm.
Oakbank RCMP were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 at Provincial Road 207 (Deacons Corner).
On the way to that call, police also were told the driver of one of the vehicles had fled on foot into a neighbouring business, where he was allegedly barricading the door and blocking members of the public from entering or exiting.
Officers arrested the man at the business. As he showed signs of impairment, police demanded a breath test, and they say he blew double the legal limit in two tests.
The RCMP investigation has determined that an eastbound van drove into an eastbound semi-trailer that was stopped at the intersection, peeling the side of the van wide open. Nobody involved received any physical injuries.
Police have charged the 31-year-old man with impaired driving, and issued him tickets for failing to give information to a driver regarding collision, carrying liquor in a vehicle, driving without a licence, and being an unlicensed driver with alcohol in their blood.
