Alfred Street house fire under investigation

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service investigators are looking into the cause of an overnight fire on Alfred Street.

Around 2:30 am On January 15, 2020, firefighters were called to a vacant single-storey duplex in the 600 block.

When they arrived on scene heavy smoke and flames were coming from the structure.

A defensive attack was launched from outside the building eventually transitioning into an interior attack once conditions improved.

The blaze was declared under control at 4:15 am.

Fire crews searched the building and did not find anyone inside. No injuries were reported.

During the fire two nearby homes were evacuated as a safety precaution.

The structure suffered significant damage due to the fire, smoke and water used to put it out.
