Firefighters were on the scene of a fire on Alfred Avenue for most of the afternoon on Friday, October 15, 2021, fighting an initial blaze then putting out hotspots.
Around 12:15 pm crews responded to a vacant single-storey duplex that was well involved when they arrived. A defensive attack was launched. Crews used aerial ladders and handlines to bring the fire under contol.
Residents in neighbouring houses were evacuated temporarily.
The fire was declared under control at 1:45 pm. No injuries were reported
Alfred Avenue was closed between Parr Street and McGregor Street while firefighters put out hotspots.
This is the second fire in the structure. In 2020 crews battled another blaze in the same location. The building is now considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
