Alexander Avenue vacant house fire under investigation

UPDATED

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the report of a house fire in the 1100 block of Alexander Avenue just after 1:30 am Saturday morning, June 27, 2020.

When firefighters arrived the one-and-a-half storey house was well involved with heavy flames and smoke billowing out of the building.

A defensive attack was launched due to the dangerous conditions inside the structure.

Neighbouring home on both sides of the fire were evacuated as a precaution.

Neighbours told News 4 that the building has been vacant for several years but the owner has had issues with homeless people living in the garage.

Fire officials on scene said that one person was treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The blaze was declared under control at 3:39 am but crews continued to work through the night.

The house is expected to be a complete loss according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
