Winnipeg Police have two suspects in custody after successful pursuits of stolen vehicles on December 31, 2019.
Around 12:30 am officers spotted a stolen car near Charles Street and College Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen the day before from Elie, Manitoba west of Winnipeg.
A stop stick was deployed by police.
The vehicle continued northbound on Main Street reaching speeds of 140 km/h. Air-1 tracked the vehicle as police on the ground backed off to a safe distance.
The driver of the car lost control and ended up on the median near Kildonan Park Golf Course.
Both the driver and passenger took off running. They split up and were running through the North End Water Pollution Control Centre property as Air-1 tracked their location.
The female passenger was arrested then released without charges. The male driver 26-year-old Mitchell Grant David Glasson was taken into custody and is facing charges for his alleged involvement for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
No sooner had Air-1 cleared the scene it responded to another stolen vehicle pursuit.
Just after 1:00 am police spotted a stolen vehicle on Selkirk Avenue. Just a few hours earlier the same vehicle had been involved in another pursuit by police.
Police followed the car and tried to deploy a stop stick but it was unsuccessful. As the vehicle took off it was tracked by Air-1. Ground units lagged back as the police helicopter watched from above as the vehicle was driven erratically through residential areas.
Police on the ground were able to box in the stolen car after it pulled a u-turn on Machray Avenue and headed directly towards two police vehicles.
The driver came to a stop after slowly hitting one of the police units head-on.
Marissa Simone Eveleigh, 24 from Winnipeg is facing a number of charges for her alleged involvement including two counts of Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
