Air-1 instrumental in robbery arrest

Winnipeg’s eye in the sky, Air-1, was once again instrumental in securing the arrest of a number of robbery suspects.

The Winnipeg Police helicopter responded to an alarm at a business in the 1100 block of Portage Avenue at around 1:15 am on April 9, 2019.

Officers saw from the air that the front door of the building had been smashed in and as they watched one of the suspects left the building and jumped into a vehicle.

The chopper crew followed the vehicle and called in ground support who stopped the vehicle on Wolseley Avenue. Three people in the vehicle were arrested and a number of stolen items were found.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects were also allegedly involved in a similar break and enter a few blocks away on Portage Avenue a few hours earlier. In that break-in the door had also been smashed and the culprits had stolen money from a cash drawer.

Jory Paul Bryce Johnson, 25 from Winnipeg is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Break, Enter & Theft X2, Identity Fraud – Intent to Gain Advantage and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Nickolas Walter Combot, 28 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with seven counts of Break, Enter and Theft, 14 counts of Theft under $5,000, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, and Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance.

A 28-year-old female was also arrested and os facing two counts of Break, Enter and Theft. She was released on a promise to appear.
