AIR-1 helps track and nab carjacking suspect

Winnipeg Police are once again noting the help Air-1 played in the tracking and arrest of of a carjacking suspect.

Just after 10:00 pm on Sunday night, August 9, 2020, police received a report that a medical marijuana courier was making a delivery when his vehicle was carjacked by a female suspect.

The victim was assaulted by the suspect before she stole his keys and vehicle, say police.

The vehicle was stolen from the area around Balmoral Street and Spence Street and fled at high speed while driving in an erratic manner.

Air-1 quickly located the vehicle and tracked it until the suspect was taken into custody.

27-year-old Caitlyn Marie Skead, from Winnipeg was charged for her alleged involvement with Robbery, Flight while Pursued by Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, tow counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order, Daily to comply with undertaking, Drive without a license or invalid license.

Skead was detained in custody.

Sargent Avenue Carjacking

Earlier in the day in an unrelated incident police responded to another carjacking in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue.

Around 2:30 pm two male suspects approached the male victim and stole his vehicle at gunpoint.

Investigators said no shots were fired in that incident and the victim was unharmed.

Police are asking anyone with information about the Sargent Avenue carjacking to call (204) 986-6219.
