Abduction Incident in Winnipeg Leads to Multiple Charges

In the early hours of August 16, North District General Patrol officers responded to a distressing abduction and kidnapping incident. An adult male reported that on the evening of August 13, he was confronted by two males at his residence in the first 100 block of Millpond Path. One of the suspects was known to the victim.

The victim was beaten and forcibly taken to an undisclosed location, where he was sexually assaulted with a firearm. The suspects also took his cellular phone and passport. After being released, the victim contacted the police.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and identified one of the suspects as Gurpreet Vehniwal, 34, of West St. Paul. Vehniwal faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement, including robbery, kidnapping, sexual assault with a firearm, extortion, and several other serious offenses. He has been detained in custody.
