Accidental fire displaces 15 people from Keewatin Street hotel

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a Keewatin Street hotel on Sunday morning, March 6, 2022.

Officials say they were called building in the first 100 block just after 6:00 am and upon arrival found heavy smoke coming from the structure.

Most of the people in the hotel had gotten out on their own but crews did help evacuated several individuals. No injuries were reported.

A transit bus was brought in to provide shelter and the city’s Emergency Social Services team was deployed to help 15 people displaced by the fire to find temporary accommodations.

The fire was located in the ceiling and an offensive attack was launched. The fire was declared under control at 6:59 am.

The fire appears to have been accidental in nature.
