Violent assault in Balmoral Hotel parking lot Saturday morning

A violent assault in the parking lot of the Balmoral Hotel early Saturday morning had people running for safety and cabbies fleeing the area.

Around 1:40 am a group of people were standing beside a vehicle near the front door of the hotel when they suddenly walked away. The vehicle followed and the passenger jumped out producing a large can of what appeared to be pepper spray which he spayed towards one of the group.

Attacker after spray blew back on him. Canister can be seen in his right hand (News 4)

The incident was captured on a dash cam from a vehicle across the street. In the video, a large cloud of spray can be seen engulfing one person. The attacker ran after the victim and sprayed once again but the wind was blowing toward the attacker and the spray covered him.

The group fled behind the building as the attackers gave chase in their vehicle. The video shows one of the group appear to rush the vehicle with a weapon above his head.

The driver and passenger in the vehicle fled the scene only to circle the area over the next 30 minutes.

In an email, to News 4 police say they looked at all the incidents in the area overnight but have not received a report yet from anyone involved.
