An adult female and a male teen arrested following a violent crime spree

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old female and a 16-year-old male in connection to a series of violent incidents on Monday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

Police say that the incidents began around 2:00 am on Monday morning in the 600 block of Ross Avenue when the teen approached a male who was outside using his phone. The teen in an unprovoked attack began hitting the male in the head and upper body with a piece of metal. The victim was taken to hospitl in stable condition.

Later Monday a second male was violently attacked. Around 9:00 pm the female accused and the male were at a restaurant in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue when without provocation the teen attacked the male with a piece of metal. The teen demanded the victim’s car keys and cell phone. Both the female and teen fled and attempted to steal the vehicle but were unable to drive it.

The next incident happened at Polo Park mall in the late afternoon on Wednesday March 31. The adult female and teen male attacked a male who was standing outside a store in the mall. They stole the victim’s bag and headed toward the exit when they were confronted by mall security. The pair dropped the bag and made their way outside where the teen smashed the driver’s side window out of a nearby truck. The victim did not require medical attention say police.

After leaving the mall they crossed Empress Street and stole a bag from an elderly man. The victim followed them and tried to get his bag back but the pair turned and attacked the senior. Police say a female nearby went over to help the male victim but was also assaulted by the pair who demanded her cell phone. Neither the female or male victim needed medical attention.

A second female intervened after witnessing the attacks but was hit by the teen who demanded money from her. The woman was able to get away. The accused stole the woman’s purse from her vehicle.

Officers responding to the incident captured the two suspects as they attempted to flee through Omand’s Creek.

The accused face five counts of Robbery, Assault with a Weapon, three counts of Possess Weapon, two counts of Utter Threats and Mischief Under $5,000.
