Manitoba marks milestone as 10% of adults received vaccine

Manitoba reached a milestone on Saturday, March 27, 2021. After nearly four months of immunizations, nearly 10 per cent of those over 18 in the province have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

More than 163,000 total doses of Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca have been administered across Manitoba.

“In the coming weeks, we expect thousands more Manitobans will receive the vaccine and we look forward to protecting as many Manitobans as possible, as soon as possible,” said Johanu Botha, operations lead of the Vaccination Implementation Task Force.

There are currently five super sites (Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Selkirk and Morden), Pop-up sites, medical clinics and pharmacies offering the vaccine.

Currently people aged 65 and older and First Nation people aged 45 and older are eligible to receive the vaccine from a super site. If you are 50 or older or First Nation and over 30 with a high-risk medical condition you eligible to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at a participating medical clinic or pharmacy.

“I want to encourage Manitobans to make their appointments once they are eligible, as well as continue to follow the fundamentals to ensure we protect others and reduce the risk of transmitting the virus,” said Dr. Joss Reimer, medical lead for the Vaccination Implementation Task Force.
