A 23-year-old male is facing multiple charges after allegedly trying to evade police in a stolen vehicle.
On Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2021, a K-9 unit in the area of Dufferin Avenue and Andrews Street spotted a stolen Chevrolet Traverse (SUV). The officer began following the vehicle as other patrol units were called in to assist.
As the SUV continued with police on its tail a stop stick was placed in the roadway at Logan Avenue and King Street. The SUV ran over the tire-deflation device but continued on to Main Street where it sideswiped a truck and drove into oncoming traffic.
The driver go the stolen vehicle eventually abandoned it near Alfred Avenue and Charles Street and fled on foot. Police began tracking the suspect with a second K-9 team.
The suspect forced his way into a home in the 300 block of Alfred and revealed a sawed-off shotgun as he took of his jacket. Police say the male then demanded a ride from the female resident. Children where in the home at the time.
The suspect then fled on foot after knocking the female to the ground, leaving the shotgun behind.
The k-9 team continued to track the suspect and in the 300 block of Burrows Avenue he was taken into custody.
Willy James Junior Anderson has been charged for his alleged involvement with Break & Enter Assault, Possess Weapon, Carry Concealed Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Possess Prohibited/Restricted Weapon, Possess Firearm Contrary to Weapon Contrary to Order, Possess Property Obtained by Crime and five counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order.
Anderson was detained in custody.
