Six more deaths, 312 new cases of COVID-19

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 312 new cases of the virus today.  The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 6,034.

Officials reported two additional deaths Saturday night on top of the two reported earlier in the day, a male in his 60s and a male in his 80s. The male in his 80s is related to the outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital. On Sunday six more deaths were reported, two females in their 80s, a female in her 90s, a male in his 80s all related to the outbreak at Maples Long term care home. A male in his 50s from the Steinbach district in Southern Health and a female in her 70s related to the outbreak at St. Boniface Hospital.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 8.9 per cent. In Winnipeg the rate is at 9.9 per cent but officials that number is less reliable due to the smaller sample size.

Of the cases reported today there are 25 cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, 26 cases in the Southern Health Region, 16 cases in the Northern Health Region, seven cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region and 238 cases in the Winnipeg Health Region.

There are 120 people being treated in hospital with 18 in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 75.

There are currently 3,255 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, of those 2,506 are in Winnipeg. There are 2,704 people are listed as recovered.

3,697 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 259,752.

An outbreak has been declared at Women’s Correctional Centre in Headingley. The facility has moved to Critical (RED) on the Pandemic Response System and visitor restrictions have been put in place.

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
